Artic Action (Svalbard / Norway) -Arctic Action opens up for global and local artists to work together, sharing their experiences and their knowledge. Only the people who have lived without rights and belonging or with oppression for a long time can talk about uncertainty, fear and displacement and what that does to a person or a community. ~Arctic Action VII is a platform for these topics. What happened to us…? In which direction is the world moving…? The climate crises are the biggest challenge for humanity of all time…, with rising sea levels, changing temperature and precipitation patterns forcing people, communities and cultures to move. Simultaneously we are having wars in Ukraine and in Gaza killing innocent civilians every day. ~The seventh edition of Arctic Action will invite artists from the North, but also artists from Ukraine, Palestine and Thailand. We are really excited and curious to see how the nomadic artists will relate to the concepts of climate, displacement, wilderness, ground, territory and space.

Fierce Festival (UK) is a youthful and joy-filled festival of international theatre, performance and experiences which takes place in and around Birmingham (UK) every two years. Fierce transforms the city and the way we feel about it: populating theatres, galleries and hidden, unusual or out-of-the-ordinary spaces like disused warehouses, swimming pools and car park. You might see theatre, dance, performance art, music, installations, activism and parties or a combination of all those things in a programme of memorable experiences and events.
FEM – (Netherlands) FEM is a unique international performance art event dedicated to showcasing work by women performance artists. Since its beginnings, the festival has consistently offered women artists the opportunity to create and show new works of performance in a supportive environment and enabled them to share their practice with others in the workshops and theory programmes. – FEM began in 2004 when Denys Blacker and the Dutch artist Anet Van de Elzen collaborated to organise an event on International Women’s Day in the town of la Bisbal d’Empordà. It is traditional in la Bisbal for the women to meet on this day, the 8th of March to celebrate together and the festival was a way to contribute to the activities that were being organized that year. Seven artists were invited to come and present a performance work in the medieval castle in the town centre. The performances were made simultaneously and the public could mover freely through the spaces during the evening to see the works.

Live Action Gothenberg (Sweden) – festival – Live Action celebrates its 20th anniversary under the theme of Freedom—arguably one of the most profound and essential concepts for humanity, alongside survival itself. Freedom is a complex and layered notion, touching nearly every dimension of social life. Yet it remains a word — perhaps the word — that resonates most profoundly across cultures and histories. Freedom and its core significations are key to all people. Reaching 20 years as an annual performance art festival is no small achievement. When Live Action was founded two decades ago, we did not foresee such a long trajectory —perhaps we should have. But would it have changed anything? Probably not. The festival began as a project, and over time, it evolved into a living, dynamic platform.

Performance Art Festival (Poland) -“Stories. The world is more complicated than our truths about it” is an interdisciplinary artistic and educational project in the field of contemporary visual arts (including performing arts) carried out by the Mazovian Museum in Płock, Poland, in partnership with Kunstbanken Center for Contemporary Art in Hamar, Norway, under the banner of Franciszka and Stefan Themerson’s work. The reference to the Themersons is crucial for the project as it results from both the programme policy of the Mazovian Museum, whose Themerson Gallery opened in 2021, and the universality of the Themersons’ thought and artistic output in the context of contemporary art. The project will last for a year, from April 2023 to March 2024, and the programme of the events assumes the organization of artistic activities in places located outside large centres, both in Poland (Płock) and Norway (Hamar), with poorer access to culture.

Sacred Homeland Performance Art Festival, London, UK
Sofia Underground International Performance Art Festival (Bulgaria) a contemporary art event, which has gained cult status during the years with its original form. Founded by art critic and activist Ruen Ruenov (1958-2011) in 1997, it first started as a widespread happening with a long-running performance program that took place on the underground floor of the National Palace of Culture – a reaction to the social crisis of that time. Ever since, with a few short breaks, this event has developed a prominent sensitivity towards public processes and the dynamics of the local art scene. The topics of the festival editions during the past years exemplify how the event reflects ongoing processes happening within our social environment – visible also through the artists’ statements of the participants. For the past decade, Sofia Underground was run in annual releases of the festival event – held in Sofia, Bulgaria, and additionally, in the shape of smaller supportive events – part of the Sofia Underground platform, variable in their scale and format, and realized throughout the year at different locations in Bulgaria and abroad.

IN>TIME 19, A CITY-WIDE PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL IN CHICAGO, IL, USA –
IN>TIME is Chicago’s triannual winter-long performance festival. The IN>TIME Festival features a season of performances, presentations, and exhibitions at venues throughout the city from local, national, and international artists.
In 2019, IN>TIME is working in coordination with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events’ upcoming exhibition, goat island archive – we have discovered the performance by making it, at the Chicago Cultural Center. Nine artists/collectives will develop responsive performances to the nine works created over the course of Goat Island’s 23-year history, with a tenth performance created from fragments of the nine new responses. Festival creator and former Goat Island member Mark Jeffery describes the festival being initiated in 2008 as coming out of the close of the Chicago-based group’s time together: “Chicago is an important hub for global conversations around art and culture, and performance is a vital part of this, and with all the opportunities and networks and friendships that Goat Island was part of, it was important to bring this knowledge and connections closer to home, here.”

Performance Art Event (PAE) (Netherlands) is a platform for performance art. An ever-changing structure, currently adapting to the organizers’ artistic development and work. The organisation is currently run by Nina Boas, Ieke Trinks and Martijn Stellinga. In 2008, together with Martijn Stellinga, we organized our first performance art event in Rotterdam. It was inspired by the performance art events in Finland we had taken part in. There we experienced performance art presented in such a way we couldn’t find in the Netherlands at that time. In Finland performance art was given it’s own exhibition space. The events consisted of going from one performance to the next, moving from one space to the other. Coming from a place where performance art is usually programmed during openings of art exhibitions and through that becoming an entertaining element, made us decide to organize a yearly event solely for performance art.
